The PCC Library has been informed that our ARTStor database will be unavailable during their coming updating on Saturday, January 26th from 11:00pm EST until Sunday January 27th at 1:00pm EST. (Their announcement is below.)

Dear ARTstor User Support and Primary Contacts, Please be advised that ARTstor will be performing an upgrade to our systems beginning on Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 PM EST and concluding on Sunday, January 27th at 1:00 PM EST. While the upgrade is being performed, users will not have access to the ARTstor Digital Library. During this time, we will be bringing our new Oracle server online. This improvement constitutes a major upgrade to our infrastructure; for more details, please see Oracle's press release. If you experience any difficulties, please clear the cache on your browser and restart your web browser. Welcome to the Spring Semester!

We are hoping all had a relaxing time over the break. All of us at the DC Library are ready for the Spring semester!

Just a couple of housekeeping items with our first post of the semester...

•  Please schedule your library sessions as soon as possible. We have already had two requests for the same date/time, so the sooner you schedule the better. If we do have multiple requests, we will make every effort to accommodate both classes - remember we can also bring laptops or iPads to your classroom. 
• Please look over your Research Guides (formally known as LibGuides) to be sure they are up to date. If yours needs editing, or you want a new one, just let us know and we will get started on it. 
• Please feel free to refer students to the Library's "Ask a Librarian" online reference service - especially for those after hours questions! "Ask a Librarian" has a database of previously asked questions that can be searched, as well as space to submit new questions.   "Ask a Librarian" can be found on the Library's MyPima page, as well as on the Library's public page (http://libanswers.pima.edu/)

Finally, we are going to be starting a series of "Did you know..." The series will highlight a library resource or service. If there is a resource or a service you would like to know more about, stop by the library or call us (206-7267) and we will be glad to help you on the spot.

Looking for an education iPad app...

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning just came out with a great list of educational apps for the iPad - A list of All The Best iPad Apps Teachers Need!

The list is broken down into 32 categories. The apps cover everything form Digital Storytelling to Whiteboard to Writing . There are even apps for research. Personally, I enjoy the Prof Hacker series found in our Chronicle of Higher Education issue we receive in our emails, and I think this list will complement those posts nicely.

Do you have a favorite app for your classes? Did one of your students let you know of a cool app?  Do you recommend an app to students to help them stay organized? If so, pass it on to the DC Library and we can start a list of our own! (Even if it's not necessarily educational in nature, pass it on...we all need a little downtime in our busy lives!)

The DC Library would like to wish everyone at the Downtown Campus a fun and safe break, no matter how or where you plan on spending it. 

Just few tidbits before you go...

• The DC Library Group Study Session are still going on until next Wednesday (12/12). (click here for times)
• The DC Library will be open during Winter Session. Our hours are posted here.

• If you need a last minute tax break, drop off your donation (books and videos) at the library. We will give you a donation slip you can use for this year's taxes!

Group Study Space Available!

• Do you have students who want to study together?

• Do they need a computer?

• Would they benefit from having a white board space to work on?

• Do you have students working on a presentation and they need to practice?

Send them to the DC Library!

The Library Learning Studio will be available for group study from Monday, November 26th through Wednesday, December 12th, from 9:00am to 12 (noon) and again from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.

Reminder to send your students to our Open Lab!

Do you have students who need help finding peer-reviewed articles?

Do you have students who need help formatting a paper? Properly citing an article or creating a Works Cited/Reference page?

Send them to the DC Library!

Just a reminder the Library has its Open Lab now until Thanksgiving.  Students can come in during the scheduled times, or if that is not convenient, they can come any time the library is open and a librarian will help them on all their research needs!

New Books at the Library...

Just a reminder that the Library is receiving new books throughout the semester. We highlight four new ones the beginning of each week on the right side of this post - Shelfari. Just click on the "Next" button on the bottom right of the shelf and you will see more titles.

If you want to see our entire new book section, when you come in the library, it is located right in front of the curved seating.

As always, if you have a title you would like the library to purchase for your course, just let us know! Now is a great time to order for the Spring semester.
